I have an F-1 visa and I'm trying to find out if I can:
1) make money through advertising on my blog;
2) sell shirts online.
My understanding is that a legal F-1 alien is not to engage in off-campus employment. Would the above fall under the "employment" category and thus violate my statutory restrictions?
International student advisors in particular: your thoughts on this?
Thank you.
F-1 visa and online income?
If you work on your website in the United States you are out of status.
There are no loopholes on this. You are considered self employed, and that is employment, without authorization under the INA. You stand a good chance of having your visa revoked.
Reply:As long as you don't do it in the United States you are fine. If you engage in business while in the United States you're in violation of the terms of your visa. Believe it or not, there are no loop-holes.
