Take a look at the link I've posted and click on the first link on the page called "Tournament rankings...click here."
What you'll see is a list of players who play online. This is a genuine list that monitors what people win at online poker sites. I know it's genuine because I've looked up myself and people I know. They are very accurately recording who wins what.
Now if you look at the league table that pops up when you follow the link I gave you, you'll see the winnings, and more importantly the profit that people have made playing online poker. The default listing is 120 days. As of right now when I look down the list I am seeing 25 of people who have made over $100,000 profit in the past 120 days. I see another 75 people who have made over $50,000 in the past 120 days.
So even if we assume that these people got lucky repeatedly, and simply break even for the rest of the year, we are still talking about profit of $50,000 to $320,000 in four months. But if we assume that these players continue over the course of a year making the same profit, we are talking about $150,000 to $960,000 per year profit. Could you live off that kind of money? I could.
So yes there are people that can make big money playing online. I have a friend who has made more money playing poker year to date, than I have earned. And I have a good job. In fact he has won more money than he has made in his day job, and he is a college professor.
Of course, none of this is easy. I'm a good player, I've been playing since 2003 and have won many tournaments and many prizes in that time. But I don't consider myself good enough to play professionally. But it is certainly a nice hobby to have if you know what you are doing.
Consider too that all of these figures I am showing you represents tournament income. There are high dollar cash games being played all the time. Some with blinds as high as $200/$400 or more. There are a lot of people who make a lot of money playing these cash games online too.
So yes, it can be done, but it is not easy. For every winner there are probably at least 20 losers.
Can people really bring in an income playing online poker?
sure why not
Reply:I've been supporting myself and my family for 4 years now playing poker on line. If I'd had a computer 30 years ago I'd never have worked a day in my life. And, by the way, I make an excellent living.
