Can I have an steady income through online poker?

Im pretty good at poker (no-limit hold em)

I was playing online yesterday, and won 180 bucks in 2 hours.

of course I kept playing, and after 14 hours lost what I made (mainly due to some bad beats)

If I tried my hardest and played my best, and had a goal: make 100 dollars a day, and stop; would it be plausable to consider a 700 dollar a week income with this method?
Can I have an steady income through online poker?
If you're good enough, yes you can, but you have to be VERY good.

Some tips.

Make sure you have enough money in the bank, separate from your bankroll, to cover all of your bills for at least 6 months.

If you're winning, keep playing. If you stop once you get up $100, you're going to be limiting your profits. Income by poker isn't steady enough to do that. If you play 6 days (you need at least one day off every week) your daily profits might go like this:

Mon:+150

Tues:+30

Wed:-50

Thurs:+220

Fri:-10

Sat:+120

If you stopped at $100 profit for the day, you cost yourself $190 for the week.

Don't play just on-line. Get to a live cash game where you can make some money too.

BE CAREFUL OF COLLUSION. Sometimes there will be 4 guys in a room on laptops playing at the same table. If you think this is happening, get out of the room ASAP and e-mail the site about it with the player's IDs and the table number.

Never invest more than 10% of your bankroll at a time.

Read every poker book you can get your hands on. Start with Super System 1 and 2, Mike Caro's Big Book of Tells, and The Zen of Poker, and join a good on-line poker forum to talk about hands you played.

Learn how to play more than just one or two games. Top players can play many games well.

And if you lost most of your profits back, it was likely due more to bad beats. You have to learn how to manage your money.

Good luck.
Reply:you can most definitely earn a steady expected income stream gambling- see wall street. not saying you can equate online poker to balancing a portfolio, but you can definitely lower your expected exposure to risk by playing heads-up, betting with EVs, and be risk-averse. Report Abuse

Reply:If you gotta ask, than no. People who can make a living playing poker online already know, and have been. People don't plan to be poker pros, it just happens. You play and find that you're winning too much to justify not playing for a living. So you quit your real job.
Reply:There are some people who can make a sustainable income by playing poker. Its tough but if you are good enough its certainly possible.

But I mean, who would want to derive their income from ujst a game. I love playing poker and I do fairly well, but I couldn't imagine sitting all day and doing it for my job. Poker is my way to get way from the real world for a few hours!
Reply:its nit likely based on the fact that you did not stop at the $180. I had the same feeling last year. I won $1700 in the first 3 days....took me 4 hours on the fourth day to lose it all. I started out that I only wanted to make $300. thats why its called gambling, it keeps you wanting more!
Reply:Sounds kind of wishy-washy to me. You can't depend on gambling as an income.

If you had some other source of money so that you could play for fun and stop if you got ahead then you could make some extra money sometimes.
Reply:go for it
Reply:Nice thought but could drive you indoors for the rest of your life and never get out to spend it, oh and stay away from 888 pacific poker they will disconnect you when you have a good hand happened to me 3 times
Reply:possible - yes

recommended - no

It's an awesome source of EXTRA income, but it shouldn't be you're only source. if you are really good enough, then move to vegas and make it your life out there.
Reply:no
Reply:Most professionals will tell you to treat all your ring game play like one big game. You're not doing yourself any favors by stopping when you hit $100, especially since you best money making opportunities come after you've doubled or tripled the maximum table buy-in.

And poker winnings are anything but consistent. The best players in the world could play 5 days a week, lose say $1000 four of those days and then win $5000 the last day and be up for the week. And that doesn't just happen in single weeks. You could be down for a week, month, several months, or even a year.
Reply:NO. You won't get a STEADY income through online poker. You can make some good money online if you're GOOD. Many people have. Still, you need very good self-discpline, and to know when to STOP. In theory, yes, but you can't rely on it. You have to be prepared for a lot of bad beats, and to be able to give it a rest for a while. Play for fun for a while, but keep a 'real' job. If you're making a packet after a few months, consider playing proffessionally then.
